The Photo Gallery: Week 237

Gallery logoHello and welcome to week 237 of The Photo Gallery.

I have a confession; I have fallen completely out of love with linkys. They have lost their lustre for me. I do a bit of an eyeroll when I see yet another one launched. When I think there can’t possibly be any subject left uncovered, up pops another.
Don’t get me wrong, I think a linky with authenticity behind it is a wonderful thing. A linky where the owner is genuinely passionate about the subject matter and is collating entries for the benefit of others is fab. And that benefit isn’t just driving traffic in a one-way exchange.
For here is what I really dislike about linkys now; they’ve become a bit of a dumping ground. Link up and bugger off. Move on to the next linky. No heart in it.
Where has the passion gone? Where has the community gone?

I guess the old days have gone now (yes I know I’m showing my blogging age). But I love my Photo Gallery linky. Love it. Loved watching people grow and change and get excited about how their photography improved and matured.
And I just find it harder and harder to love it as much as I used to. My baby. For the Photo Gallery really has been my bloggy baby over the years. And I’m not sure how I feel about her any more.

I could wake up tomorrow and be ‘what the HELL was I talking about’ and find a renewed vigour, so pretend this all didn’t happen, right?!
So for now, here is the new theme for this week’s Photo Gallery is: Where I Live.

As usual, interpret the theme any way you like but make sure you share a little bit of what you love about your neck of the woods, as they say!

I’ll see you back here on Wednesday when it’s time to link up x

If you’re new here, here’s a post to tell you all about what The Photo Gallery is all about and how to enter.
And if you want to make sure you don’t miss any prompts or entries in future, make sure you subscribe to the Sticky Fingers blog and get all prompts delivered directly to your in box.
Go on, clicky click away, you know you want to …

If you want to join in with The Gallery and showcase your photos, come back on Wednesday and when my Gallery post goes live, add a link to your post on the Linky below mine.
The link stays open until the following Tuesday, so you have plenty of time to join in.
And ANYONE can join in.

  1. I so get where you are coming from with this! I have given up all the ‘general’ linkies because I would make time I didn’t have to comment on at least 10 posts to get precisely nothing in return. In a week, you see the same posts appear about 57 times on every linky out there, but the bloggers are not reading other people’s posts. I still love The Gallery though, it makes me think out of the box, although how will I write about where I live without giving it away?! Ponders…

I’ve never joined in your Gallery myself, but I would miss it. I don’t often browse the links, but sometimes I do, and for those times, I would miss it. It’s nice to know it’s always there. I hope you wake up and find that renewed vigour. But I also get that blogging changes and moves on and you have to go with your gut. Nothing worse than flogging a dead blogging horse (not that the Gallery is a dead horse, but you get my drift). I’m sure you will come up with something new, if you move on from the Gallery, and maybe the old needs to go, to make way for the new.

I hear you. I am also guilty though of just starting a linky. Oops.

You are right though there are some linkies that are just dumping grounds. There is no sharing, no real social interaction and nobody really gets anything out of it.

I love that yours does have a real community feel to it, it was the first one I joined and is still the only one that I do pretty much religiously. I would make me a bit sniffly if it wasn’t there anymore, but I get you.

  4. I’ve been coming back to your blog every day this week to find out what the theme is for The Gallery – it’s one of my favourites. However, now I’m confused cos you normally post on a Friday, ready for the following wednesday – is this theme for tomorrow? I’m not sure I’ll manage it in time 🙁 What I really wanted to say is that I 100% agree with you. I have a few favourites now that I go back to time and again but not many, probably 4. I don’t link every week, not unless the post is 100% relevant and I have the time to comment on at least 6 other blogs linked up. What’s the point otherwise? Sorry for the essay but it really annoys me too!

I do normally post on a Friday Suzanne, sorry. I’ve been rubbish of late, and well, been very late. You’ve got exactly the right attitude; you shouldn’t post every week if it doesn’t suit, that’s not what it’s about 🙂

I love the photo gallery linky. It’s one of my favourite linkys to join in with. I think photo ones are great 🙂

I’m guilty of linking up one post to 3 linkys each week for animal tales, time traveller and HDYGG? but I write the post to cover the 3 links. I’m also using project 365 post to join in with Mummy Barrows new linky, but I don’t dump and run, i comment on every post in the linky, I reply to comments on my blog posts and then randomly read and reply to those who have commented also. i’ve found the traffic to my site and the comments have increased 10 fold. I’m off now to explore ‘where I live’ write a post, link up and read and comment on everyone else’s posts
