‘They’ say you should enjoy every minute of your kids because it goes by so very very fast.
‘They’ say that in the blink of an eye your baby goes from crawling, to walking to school to sobbing over their first break up.
Dan is 12 now, elbowing 13.
I remember the day he crawled, wearing a Superman T-shirt and the biggest smile on his face like he was utterly overwhelmed with himself for being so damn clever.
I remember his first day at school and how he wore shorts because it was still so hot that September and his little sister was bereft the whole day because she missed him so much.
I remember his first sleepover, when his first tooth fell out, his first rugby match.
I blinked and now he’s almost a teenager.
The top of his head reaches the bridge of my nose.
We talk about exams and the news and feelings.
This is just a warning, a gentle nudge, a note to say beware; ‘they’ were right.
