The Photo Gallery 219: Health and Fitness

Mia swimming

My little swimmer.
Long. lean limbs and sense of freedom, mean it’s Mia’s chosen method of keeping active.
At Christmas she moved up to the top group to work on stamina and fitness levels so she can swim for longer.
She has no interest in competing, she just enjoys it.

A few week’s after Christmas she announced that she wanted to do a sponsored swim. She wanted to raise money doing something she loves.
She disappeared off to her room, visited the Dogs Trust website (she has a deep and all-consuming love of animals), printed off one of their sponsorship forms and went off to ask  friends and relatives to sponsor her to raise money for them.

She’s now completed her sponsored swim and these are the photos she posed for to attach to a leaflet she wants to produce and send to all her sponsors to thank them for their support and let them know that she has completed it and how much was raised.

I think it’s vital our children move move MOVE especially in this age where the draw of computer games and the digital world is more hypnotic than ever.
She’s been through a few different sports. She tried gymnastics but got bored. She flat refused to try any form of dance. She played rugby for two seasons and loved it. She’s sampled athletics and wants to go back.
But swimming has stuck. It is her happy place. And being able to keep fit AND think of others; cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of her.
Well done Mia. You did good!

This post is for week 219 of The Photo Gallery: The theme is: Health and Fitness.

Here’s how to join in

Take a photo using the theme I’ve given as your inspiration. There are no rules and you can interpret the theme any way you like.

Now share your photo. Write a blog post using your photo. You can write as many or as few words as you choose. You don’t even need to use a new photo; it can be something from your archives. Just a photo which you think represents the prompt.

Add the Photo Gallery badge (and the foot of this post) to your post so other readers can find the other entries.

Add a link back to your post using the linky tool below. The linky stays open until Tuesday so you have plenty of time to join in.

Now go visit as many of the other entries as you can. Leave a comment, discover new blogs, discover new ways of taking photos and maybe share any tips you have. It’s about going out and encouraging each other.

The Photo Gallery isn’t about taking technically brilliant photos. You can take them on your phone, your point and shoot or your fancy pants camera. It’s about having a passion for photos, wanting to better yourself and discovering what other bloggers are doing.

  5. Great post and Well done to Mia! I used to love swimming as a youngster and I even got quite good at it at one point, competing for my town swimming club. Of course as you grow older these things sometimes fall by the wayside. But I hope Mia retains her love of swimming.

  8. She did better than good, she did amazing. Such a huge achievement raising money for charity and the thought behind it is rather sweet. I’d hope that if G decides he wants to raise money he would do it for an animal charity as he too loves doggies. I love this post. My little boy has swam since he was 4 months old and absolutely loves it. I hope he continues to love it as he gets older. #TheGallery

This is a gorgeous tribute to your daughter, Mia, and well done to her! I love the photographs and that she wanted to send them as a thank you to her sponsors. Swimming is a sport for life and she’ll always have it. I think it’s awesome that she’s so enthusiastic about it for how it makes her feel and that she wants to do it to help others too. What a wonderful young lady she is. You must be so proud, and rightly so. Well done Mia and well done Mamma!! xx
