The Photo Gallery: Week 203 #seethemiracle

Gallery logoHello and welcome to week 203 of The Photo Gallery.

I’m hosting something a bit special this week on The Gallery.
A good blogging friend of mine, Chris Mosler, is a passionate charity campaigner and is currently looking for support for a new Sightsavers initiative called Million Miracles.
The ambitious appeal aims to raise £30 million by 2018 to fund sight-restoring operations in some of the poorest countries in the world.
That operation is cataract surgery. Commonplace in this part of the world but a million miles away from many sufferers.
And the cost of this surgery for one adult is just £30. £30 to give someone back the gift of sight.
Many people can’t even afford to get to a hospital, let alone have the surgery, and so they live with deteriorating sight which, inevitably, means they can no longer work.
People like Mr Winesi, below.

And so, to support this appeal and to celebrate how precious our sight is, this week’s Gallery theme is: Eyes.
A photograph of eyes; your eyes, your children’s eyes, your pets’ eyes, through your eyes – anything which fits in with the theme.

Sightsavers see the miracle

The Sightsavers campaign is a very modern, digital one, as you will have the unique opportunity to see a cataract operation for yourself performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Malawi via Google + hangout on October 8 (don’t worry, I’m assured it’s not gory!)
And the following day you can join the patient, Mr Winesi, as his bandages come off and he sees clearly for the first time in years.

I am very proud of the Photo Gallery – a place where people who love photography can come together, share and encourage each other.
Imagine losing your sight so you could no longer enjoy doing the thing you love; never being able to see a photograph again.

If you want to join in with the Gallery simply link up your posts as normal and support all those who also join in.
