When you’re 11, apparently having a birthday cake is no longer cool.
But obviously we wanted to light some candles and sing Happy Birthday to celebrate Dan’s big day this week, so I came up with this alternative – Doctor Who cupcakes.
Dan LOVES the Doctor so I was delighted when I spotted this TARDIS shaped Doctor Who chocolate mould in Lakeland.
These aren’t those fancy pants cupcakes where someone recreates the sonic screwdriver in icing. Or fashions the Doctor Who logo out of marzipan. Or makes TARDIS blue sponge – bleurgh!
These are really simple, fun and easy peasy to make.
I’ve basically used this Hummingbird Bakery cupcake recipe (which is one of the best I’ve come across) and made my own Doctor Who chocolate toppers.
Melt a 100g bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk in a heatproof bowl, sat ontop of a gently simmering pan of water.
When the chocolate has melted spoon it into the moulds and leave in the fridge for half an hour.
Eh voila. Perfectly formed chocolate toppers for your cupcakes. The detail is excellent.
Devour while humming the theme tune . . .
