The Photo Gallery 160: Sunday Morning

Dan rugby player
This is my Sunday morning. Every Sunday morning. Mid July to mid May.
On the touchline. Muddy, usually cold. Heart in my mouth, fists clenched.
Every Sunday there is a match or training or travel to a festival for a whole day of watching rugby.
Every Sunday there is a rush for kit and boots and water bottles.
Daniel is starting his fifth year of rugby. Mia her second.

But what you can’t see is that I’m stood on that touchline with a group of wonderful, supportive parents.
All of us bursting with pride. All of us moaning about losing our Sunday mornings but when pushed we wouldn’t have it any other way!

This post is for week 160 of The Photo Gallery: Sunday Morning.

Only a broken arm has interrupted our rugby rituals. He's even had his 'pot' made in black, yellow and red – the rugby club colours! It's netball match time for me these days, so I've focused on that this week, but relying on a photo taken by the Umpire (schoolgirl error)….

I think as a parent you have to enjoy it too or it would be torture. For 10 years I played hockey every Saturday morning. My parents never came once. It has stayed with me. Your children will remember that you were there. It will stay with them. Xxx
