It’s not the greatest photo.
It’s blurry, I’ve cut Dan’s head off and there’s all sorts of gubbins in the background.
But this is our bedtime hour right now. I snatched it as they were doing their ablutions and it reminds me of a big leap forward in the Parenting Manual.
Because they pretty much do everything themselves now. Wash, scrub nails (every day with the dirt rammed under their nails, what’s that all about?), teeth, clean newly pierced ears for Mia, which she does precisely and diligently. She’ll go to bed with food in her hair, but at least her ears are pristine.
And while I used to huff and puff and moan and whine about all the things I had to do to help them get ready for bed, now they don’t need me I still find I hover on the outskirts pretending to ask questions about this and that, because really I just want to be with them.
